Feds say they've busted NY drug ring, indicted 16

WHITE PLAINS - (AP) - A top prosecutor says federal andlocal agents have broken up a drug distribution ring in the Bronxand Yonkers.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH'-ruh) says 16 members ofthe alleged ring have been indicted in federal court on charges ofconspiring to distribute cocaine.

Bharara says the charges specify drug amounts of five kilogramsor more. That means there's a mandatory minimum sentence of 10years in prison on conviction.

Prosecutors said Thursday the ring was called the "4040Organization" because it operated out of 4040 Bronx Blvd. in theBronx. They want the building forfeited to the government.

They said the ring distributed cocaine in the Bronx, Yonkers andelsewhere.

A federal spokesman said 15 of the suspects were in custodyafter arrests Wednesday night and Thursday.
