THE BRONX - (AP) - Consumer Reports and the TransportationDepartment are teaming up to make sure teenagers know about thedangers of distracted driving.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is visiting the magazine'sNew York headquarters today, laying out a joint project. It's aimedat helping parents and teachers fight a driving-while-texting trendthat's hitting young people hard.

Consumer Reports notes three deadly statistics: -Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. -Teens are involved in three times as many fatal crashes asother drivers. -And texting multiplies by 23 the risk of a collision.

Also expected at the news conference is a young woman whoseparents were killed in a crash with a driver who was talking on acell phone.
