THE BRONX - Two houses were damaged in an early morning fire Sunday in Claremont, leaving one family displaced.

A vacant house at 1700 Topping Ave. went up in flames at around 5:30 a.m. and then spread to the house next door, at 1698 Topping Ave. The family of nine who lived there quickly escaped without injury.

The back of the vacant house eventually collapsed and has since been boarded up.

The family who lived next door says their attic was destroyed and the second floor suffered a lot of water damage.
