THE BRONX - Firefighters rushed to an early morning fire in Belmont, extinguishing flames in one apartment for the second straight day.

According to the fire chief, the second fire started at around 3:30 a.m., inside the same third-floor unit at 2411 Prospect Ave.

Officials say 48-year-old Kenderth Smith, who lives in the apartment, was arrested and charged Sunday with two counts of arson for the first fire, but it's not known if he had any involvement in the second.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, and the building suffered heavy fire and water damage. The Red Cross is also helping at least four families who are unable to return to their homes.
