Fire forces evacuation of youth rehab center

MOUNT HOPE - A fire at a Mount Hope youth rehabilitation center forced the evacuation of over 20 people this afternoon.

The FDNY responded to the fire on the fourth floor of the Promesa rehab center on East 175th Street at 4:30 p.m. after smoke and flames started billowing out of the building.

Officials report that all the residents were able to get out safely and that while five firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the fire, they are all expected to be OK.

The rehab center was built for at-risk youth who have been involved in criminal activity to help them get back on track.
