Fire rips through University Avenue church

Firefighters battled a Bronx church fire Friday afternoon.Officials say the flames broke out at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Church on University Avenue at Fordham

THE BRONX - Firefighters battled a Bronx church fire Friday afternoon.

Officials say the flames broke out at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Church on University Avenue at Fordham Road a little after noon. Firefighters say the flames started in the vestibule of the church. Several firefighters were injured when a ceiling collapsed. However, there were no serious injuries.

Officials say the fire is considered suspicious and are investigating the cause.
