PELHAM BAY PARK - The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure will take place in Central Park this weekend.

Rick Galvin, who works as a firefighter in the Bronx, says he will participate in the race this year in honor of his mother, who died of cancer when he was 11 years old.

"I was supposed to be there the night she passed away and I wasn't there, so it was the guilt that I had for many years, and this is something that I'm trying to do to basically make up to her for not being there, and now hopefully that other kids don't have to suffer like I did," says the 33-year-old firefighter.

Galvin plans to run the race on Sunday in all of his FDNY gear.
