THE BRONX - City Council members and dozens of firefighters gathered on the steps of City Hall today to rally against possible firehouse closures.

The group, led by Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley (D-Middle Village), says Mayor Michael Bloomberg's 2012 cost-cutting plan would shut down about 20 engine companies across The Bronx and the rest of the city.

Following the protest, Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano testified in front of the City Council, saying the city has plans in place to handle the closures. Cassano has a list of the firehouses on the chopping block, but neither he nor the mayor will disclose the information.
