THE BRONX - Sept. 11 first responders from the Bronx are calling the passage of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act a Christmas miracle.

Congress passed the bill yesterday, which will provide $4.2 million in aid to first responders and survivors of the terrorist attacks who got sick after breathing in toxic dust from Ground Zero.

The fire commissioner says the medical-monitoring program the FDNY uses has about 15,000 firefighters enrolled in it and that the bill will ensure that the program continues since more firefighters are coming down with illnesses related to the Sept. 11 attacks.

Bronx residents are also delighted by the passage of the bill. Many told News 12 The Bronx that they feel it took too long to get the legislation passed.
