THE BRONX - Police are investigating a fireworks explosion that rattled an entire Bronx neighborhood near Pelham Bay Park.

According to authorities, professional grade fireworks were detonated in a baseball field at around 11 p.m. Monday. They say the fireworks were put inside a garbage can where they went off.

State Sen. John Klein announced that he will introduce a bill that would put vandals who detonate fireworks behind bars for up to a year depending on the severity of the damage caused and on the resulting public panic.

The loud blast not only startled Country Club residents living near the park, but it also cracked and shattered the windows of some homes on Middletown Road.

Many say that vibrations could be felt for miles, even as far as Westchester County. One man living eight blocks away says he was shaken right out of bed.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made yet.
