Floating pool opens in Hunts Point

Bronx residents will have a new way to beat the heat this summer.The city's floating pool opens Friday at Barretto Point Park in Hunts Point.

THE BRONX - Bronx residents will have a new way to beat the heat this summer.The city's floating pool opens Friday at Barretto Point Park in Hunts Point. The pool sits on a barge and has a pool house, bathrooms and locker rooms. There are seven lanes for swimmers to enjoy.

New York City Michael Bloomberg stopped by to take a dip Friday to kick off the city?s summer swimming season.

The Parks Department will be running free shuttle buses to the pool the entire summer. Admission is free, as are swimming lessons.

The pool will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
