THE BRONX - The Animal Care Centers of New York City set up a food pantry Tuesday for local pets in need.

The nonprofit organizations outreach initiative, Community Dogs Program, is intended to provide families assistance in caring for their pets.

Community Dogs Program Coordinator Ken Foster says due to lack of resources, many families are forced to give their pets up.

"To go through the holidays and have an issue like 'I don't know how to feed my pet' makes the holidays less pleasant," he said.

The bags of food are supplied by a grant secured by The Animal Care Centers of New York City.

The Bronx Admissions Center, which houses the pet food pantry, is located at 464 E. Fordham Road, and is open seven days a week.
