Fordham Plaza reconstruction project frustrates drivers, pedestrians

Drivers and pedestrians are forced to navigate around an East Fordham Road reconstruction project.

THE BRONX - Traffic frustration among motorists dealing with Fordham Plaza roadwork is on overdrive.

A reconstruction project on East Fordham Road is under way, forcing pedestrians and drivers to navigate through confusing street patterns. Several intersections have temporary rules, including no left turns, and some two-way streets have been narrowed to one-way.

The changes not only include revamped roadways, but also sidewalk repairs, and new traffic and street lights. Third Avenue, between East Fordham Road and 189th Street, will become a bus-only lane.

The work is expected to be completed by spring 2014.
