FORDHAM - Business owners in the Fordham shopping district say recent traffic changes in the area are driving away customers.

Many local merchants on Webster Avenue say a new ‘no left turn’ sign and new bus lanes leave customers with no place to park.

Merchants met with city Department of Transportation officials this morning to discuss ways to resolve the lack of parking available to customers and the effort to streamline traffic on the roads.

They say they will reconvene with DOT officials in three weeks to discuss traffic data currently being collected.

A DOT spokesperson said in a statement that the bus route maintains most existing parking, while adding loading spaces. He added that the left turn restriction is "necessary in order to reduce congestion, prevent delays for bus riders and all drivers in the area and maintain safety for pedestrians."
