THE BRONX - Fordham University is responding to allegations made by an advocate for victims of sexual abuse.

As News 12 reported last Friday, Helen Gumpel rallied outside the college, saying that it refused to acknowledge the alleged sex abuse of her husband when he was a minor by a Jesuit priest and professor.

A spokesperson for the university called Gumpel's claims inaccurate, saying in part, "Father Drake, the alleged abuser, was a teacher at Fordham Prep, not a university professor."

The school added that the alleged abuse took place at the Maine Maritime Academy while Father Drake was on leave from his duties at Fordham Prep.
