BROOKLYN - Eduard Nogay, a volleyball star at Fort Hamilton High School, passed away this morning following his battle with cancer.

News 12 Overtime featured Nogay last month. Nogay had his arm amputated, yet still competed this season for his high school team. As the season went on, the cancer worsened and spread to his lungs.

He died a few minutes after midnight, a day after his 18th birthday.

Volleyball helped motivate Nogay as he battled a rare disease known as Epitheloid Sarcoma. He played while going through chemotherapy treatments and with a collapsed lung.

The team reached the semifinals.

Family, friends and teammates were with him at Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center when he passed.
