THE BRONX - The foster mother for a 4-year-old Bronx girl who police say was abducted by her biological mother is relieved that the child is now safe.

According to authorities, Mia Olarte was taken by 49-year-old Dora Olarte during a scheduled weekly supervised visit Monday night, sparking a citywide Amber Alert. The mother does not have custody of her daughter, who lives with a foster family at 240 Mount Hope Place.

Foster mom Johanny Raminez told News 12 that her prayers have been answered and that she cannot wait to hug Mia, who she has cared for since she was just 5 months old.

Raminez also said she had been sick with worry because Mia has Down syndrome and needed her medication.

The daughter of Raminez says that although girl's biological mother has a history of mental problems, she never thought she would take off with her.

News 12 is told that police tracked down the elder Olarte through her cellphone.
