THE BRONX - Bronx residents will soon have the opportunity to request free tax preparation services.
City Councilman Ritchie Torres and Urban Upbound are hosting the event, which is taking place inside Torres' district office at 573 East Fordham Road and will be available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through tax season.
To quality, residents must meet the income requirements. A single person must make at least $24,000 a year, and a family of four must make $62,000. Anyone attending the event must bring their W2, photo ID, social security card and any other pertinent information.
Torres says tax returns provide a boost to the local economy, and the free service protects residents from identity fraud.
Residents who do not file tax returns by April 15 will lose their right to any funds that are 3 years old.
Last year, the councilman says the same service helped 500 Bronx residents file their taxes with an average return of $2,200.
