FreshDirect to deliver food, jobs in The Bronx

THE BRONX - FreshDirect will soon be delivering food and jobs in The Bronx.

The company has announced it will deliver food to all zip codes in the borough. Local deliveries start Monday, but shoppers can begin placing orders now and get online discounts.

The expansion comes months after the online grocer announced plans to build its new headquarters at the Harlem River Yards, which is expected to create 1,000 jobs. The move has sparked outrage and protests from many residents who argued that it would pollute the community and not offer fair wages.

The company says food stamp orders will also be accepted on Monday, through a new pilot program.
