Friends, family of slain BX man urge police to catch killer

PARKCHESTER - Friends and family of a Bronx man fatally beaten in his apartment building are urging police to solve the case. Police say Bimal Chanda, 59, was repeatedly hit over the head in a stairwell, and that $15 was stolen from his pockets. They say they are targeting two suspects seen on a surveillance video. However, the victim's family is questioning the real motive behind the attack, considering Chanda was left with $80, credit cards and a cell phone. "It was not a robbery," said friend Tahan Sen. "If it's robbery, they should not kill a person, they take his money. But money was in his pocket." A police flyer has been posted outside Chanda's building, and friends say he was in the process of moving out due to increased drug activity on his block. Investigators say they do not believe Chanda was intentionally targeted. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.Wake held for BX man who was beaten to death
