THE BRONX - Hundreds were in attendance Friday for the funeral of a Bronx man who police say was stabbed to death by his landlord.

Taha Mahran,51, was arraigned Thursday and is facing murder charges after police say he fatally stabbed his tenant, Zahir Khan, 44.

The service was held at the Parkchester Jame Masjid. People who knew Khan told News 12 that he was a prominent member of the Bangladeshi community.

Mahran reportedly walked into the 45th Precinct in bloody clothing and gave police incriminating statements saying he had stabbed someone up the block.

The Bronx district attorney says Mahran admitted to the crime.

Prosecutors say Mahran stabbed Khan more than 20 times Wednesday night in front of his children. They say Khan lived in Mahran's house and that the confrontation stemmed from an ongoing fight over unpaid rent.

Neighbors at the crime scene on Logan Avenue say the two had been fighting for the past year.

Mahran is due back in court on Tuesday.
