BEDFORD PARK - A memorial service was held Tuesday in Bedford Park for a retired NYPD officer.
Thomas Petrozza passed away suddenly back in December at the age of 60.
The officer, who retired in 1999, is survived by his elderly mother, who was unable to finance a proper burial for him. A GoFundMe page was created to raise money for his services. Over $12,000 was raised within a matter of days.
About 50 officers from the 52nd Precinct were in attendance, along with a color guard and police escorts. The Grand Concourse was shut down in Petrozza's honor.
Since the 52nd Precinct was able to raise more than expected for the funeral, News 12 is told the extra proceeds will be donated to the PBA's Widows and Orphans Fund.
