NEW YORK - It's Furry Friday and this week News 12 is offering some tips on how to keep your furry friends warm and safe during the cold winter months.

Workers at Animal Care and Control say that short-haired and small dogs are more susceptible to the cold, and can even get hypothermia just like humans. It’s recommended that they wear a coat or sweater to help protect against the elements.

The shelter also says that you should take shorter walks during the winter. Salted roads and sidewalks can also be very harmful to the pads of their feet, but you can use Vaseline to prevent cracking. Don’t forget to wash off their paws each time you come indoors.

Most importantly, remember that if it's too cold for you outside, then it's also too cold for your pets.
