THE BRONX - Bronx grocery store employees are worried about their future as the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. is folding.

The company owns several supermarket chains, including A&P Fresh, Waldbaums and Pathmark.

The supermarket giant is closing 25 stores and selling another 118, affecting about 28,000 workers.

Longtime employees already facing layoffs or uncertainty about whether the new owners will keep them on the books find their situation exacerbated by A&P's attempt to slash severance packages by 75 percent.

The company is currently fighting the workers' union in court to get out of the previously agreed upon deal.

Union officials say a decision may be reached by next Wednesday.
