Gas-deprived Morrisania tenants make plea for help

THE BRONX - Fed up tenants in a Morrisania apartment building are making a plea for help after living without gas in their homes for more than a month.

According to residents at 547 East 168th St., gas service was shut off June 7 due to a leak and was never turned back on. They say their landlord, from Genesis Realty Group, gave all 70 tenants hot plates, but has done nothing else.

Residents say they've called 311 and Con Edison about the problem, but have been told that the problem lies with the landlord.

News 12 reached out to Genesis Realty Group, which says it will release a statement at a later time. The Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) says it's looking into the situation.
