NEW YORK - The pain at the pump is slowly coming back for drivers in the borough.

According to AAA, prices have jumped 20 cents in New York City over the past month to an average of $2.62 per gallon, which is 20 cents higher than the national average. The steady increase is the longest streak of rising gas prices in more than two years.

The current costs are still much cheaper than what drivers were paying at this time last year when a gallon of gas was roughly $3.77.

One reason for the price jump is that U.S. refineries briefly go offline this time of year for seasonal maintenance in order to plan for higher gas demand during the spring and summer months.

GasBuddy.com says the least expensive place to fill up in the Bronx is at the Citgo on Baychester Avenue with a gallon of gas starting at $2.37.
