Gas prices surge 19 cents per gallon

THE BRONX - Gas prices are on the rise again, surging 19 cents per gallon in just three weeks.

The price per gallon of regular gas hit $4.23 in the Bronx at the Citgo station on the Hutchinson Expressway today. Average national prices are now $3.76 per gallon, while the average price in New York City has reached $3.99. Analysts say the unrest in the Middle East has caused a surge in prices as the rebellion in Libya halted daily exports of crude oil.

The price is still lower than the city's record high, which hit $4.41 in 2008.
