Gay marriage generates $259M in NYC

THE BRONX - It's been one year since same-sex marriage was legalized in New York State and officials say that those ceremonies have generated $259 million in the city.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn released the figure, saying they hope people will see all the positive things marriage equality has done. The city has issued at least 8,200 licenses for gay marriages, which account for 10 percent of NYC's marriages since July 24 of last year.
