THE BRONX - Drivers in the Bronx are being warned of a "carmageddon" as work begins on the George Washington Bridge.
The Port Authority closed three out of four lanes on the bridge's upper deck at 11 p.m. on Monday. The New Jersey-bound closures will allow crews to replace hundreds of steel beams during the overnight hours.
Delays are expected to be at least 45 to 60 minutes on the approaches from the Cross Bronx and Major Deegan expressways.

The repairs are expected to last through the end of the year.
