THE BRONX - The senior center on Glebe Avenue is expanding its diabetes prevention program to better serve seniors diagnosed with pre-diabetes.

The federally funded program lasts 12 months and begins with 16 weekly classes. There are monthly meetings following the classes.

Louise Roach, who joined the program last summer, says it has changed her life.

Studies show the program brings down the chances of fully developing diabetes by about 70 percent. Anyone with an elevated glucose level who is enrolled in Medicare parts A or B is eligible for the program.
