THE BRONX - Thousands of runners laced up their sneakers for the New York City marathon Sunday.

Runners gathered in Staten Island at the base of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge for the start of the race before they began heading to Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx.

The 26.2-mile trek ended at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.

News 12's Jessica Cunnington was among the runners.
