THE BRONX - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is warning all New Yorkers to be prepared for heavy rains, potential flooding and the possible arrival of Hurricane Joaquin this weekend.

He is also reminding New Yorkers to sign up for NY-alert to receive immediate alerts on flood warnings and severe storms.

Residents say they are preparing themselves for what Hurricane Joaquin may bring to the borough.

Stores are stocking up on food and supplies and people living in low-lying areas are already making evacuation plans.

Residents who live by the water say that if conditions get bad, they plan on grabbing their things and pets and head to the homes of loved ones who live further inland.

Jessica Contreras, of Edgewater, says she is worried about her home because she lives only yards away from the water.

"There's not really much you could do but tape up your windows," she says.
