Governor orders special session of state legislature

ALBANY - After the state legislature rejected parts of Governor David Patterson?s budget plan on Saturday, the governor has ordered a special session of the legislature today.

The legislature has agreed to restore $600 million in school aid, which is twice what the governor asked for.

With this agreement the legislature may go through with their plan to amend and pass the version of the budget Patterson submitted months ago.

The governor has imposed a deadline of Monday to pass a new budget, which is three months late, or shut down the government.
