Haitian boy receives life-saving surgery at BX hospital

THE BRONX - A Haitian boy received life-saving surgery today at The Children?s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center.

Four-year-old Kensley Gerome has a heart condition that restricts blood flow in his body.

Doctors say Kensley underwent his surgery this afternoon to correct the heart condition.

The life-saving effort is the work of Surgeons of Hope, a humanitarian medical group that provides pediatric surgeries and training to doctors in impoverished countries worldwide.

Dorisca Robens, 12, also suffers from a crippling heart ailment that prevents him from playing with friends. He's expected to undergo surgery on Monday.

Surgeons say without the operations, the boys would not be expected to make it past 15.
