GRAND CONCOURSE - In a sign of borough unity, Bronx residents will link hands to promote non-violence over a one-mile stretch of the Grand Concourse this weekend.
Participants in the Hands Across Grand Concourse event will gather on West Kingsbridge Road and the Grand Concourse stretching to the Mosholu Parkway.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says he does not want to wait for a violent crime to unite the borough, even though NYPD statistics show that violence crimes are down so far this year.
"We want to be preemptive. We don't want to wait until we have a problem," said Diaz. "This is us coming together especially when we know that [violent crime] numbers spike up during the summer months."
Hands Across Grand Concouse starts on Sunday at 4 p.m.
