THE BRONX - A rare scholarship has been awarded to a college student from the Bronx.

Paolo Singer, 22, graduated from Harvard with a degree in economics. The next step for him is heading to Oxford University in London on a Rhodes Scholarship for graduate school.

Oxford is a tough school to be accepted to, but receiving what is said to be one of the most prestigious scholarships in the country is even more difficult.

The Kingsbridge native says tough situations do not scare him because he is devoting his life to solving urban poverty, one of the world's toughest issues.

Singer's passion for the poor led him to intern at the White House and visit countries such as India.

He says his New Year's resolution will be to try to give back as much as possible and attempt to make the world a better place.
