Health care aides keep close eye on elderly during heat wave

THE BRONX - Health care aides say they have been on high alert during this summer scorcher, making sure elderly residents in the Bronx are being properly cared for. Some aides, who say they usually spend between four and 12 hours each day with the elderly, are going out of their way to make sure the elderly are hydrated and have enough fans and air conditioning.

Officials say there are about 800 people in the Bronx who require home health care aides and about 1,000 aides available to help.
