NEW YORK - The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for all five boroughs as heat indexes reach near 97 degrees.

News 12 forecasters say shoreline neighborhoods will have a feels-like temperature in the upper-80s.

Forecasters expect heavy downpours to move through the area in the late afternoon with the possibility of flash flooding.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says the city is conducting homeless outreach in an effort to keep the most vulnerable New Yorkers safe.

There are also a number of cooling centers open across the city.
