Heroes save 4 students during a bus fire

BRONX - Bus driver Jamal Richards acted quickly last Friday when he got four disabled children safely off his school bus when it caught on fire.

The dashboard unexpectedly caught on fire, and Richards, along with bus matron Esther Rivera, got three children who were in wheelchairs and one in a walker quickly off the bus. Immediately after, the fire spread to the front half of the bus.

It was only Richards? second month working as a driver and Rivera's 13th year. Both were praised by parents and school staff for their heroic actions.

The bus company is conducting an investigation into why the dashboard caught on fire.
