THE BRONX - A Bronx historian is among those petitioning for repairs to a mural depicting the borough's very first settler.

The painting of Jonas Bronck, the man the Bronx was named after, is crumbling to pieces with mold stains and cracks in the canvas after suffering water damage at the Bronx County Building.

Historian Lloyd Ultan says the piece is not only important to the people of the Bronx, but is also important to the history of the whole city.

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services says it will send a request for a restoration expert next month.
