THE BRONX - Hundreds of parents, students, educators and lawmakers took to the streets tonight to rally against a proposal to phase out 26 schools throughout the city.
The group gathered in front of the Department of Education headquarters in lower Manhattan in opposition to the closures, which would affect several Bronx schools.
According to the DOE, the struggling schools consistently perform low on progress reports and continue to have dismal graduation rates. Many against the proposal argue those schools have been serving students with greater needs and should be fixed, not shut down.
The Panel for Education Policy is expected to meet tomorrow and have a final vote on the issue by Thursday.
