HUNTS POINT - Local restaurants cooked up dishes in a competition meant to highlight the importance of the food sector in Hunts Point.

Eleven teams participated in the Slam Bake contest, taking place at the American Banknote Building.

All the teams had to create dishes made with ingredients bought in Hunts Point. One of the judges was Bronx-based Cooking Channel personality Baron Ambrosia.

Hunts Point is a finalist in the federal program Rebuild by Design, which grants additional funding to communities impacted by Sandy. Organizers of the contest hope it raises awareness of how important the Hunts Point neighborhood is, especially since it's home to the country's largest food distribution center.
