In twist, cops say teen hurt in Grand Ave. shooting is a suspect

THE BRONX - In a shocking twist, police now say a 17-year-old who was injured in a shooting on Grand Avenue last night is actually one of several suspects in the armed robbery that preceded the gunfire. Investigators say Bobby Balthazar, his 4-year-old son and the boy's mother were in front of their home on Grand Avenue last night when they were attacked by several men with a gun. The child, Cincer Balthazar, was shot and critically wounded in the scuffle. Police now say the child's father grabbed the same gun used to shoot his son and chased the suspects down the street, firing at them. The bullets hit 17-year-old Jose Marte, who was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. Detectives say they later found the gun in the apartment of the boy's mother. Officials say Marte is recovering. Cincer Balthazar is listed in critical condition at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Police say they have charged 17-year-old Maurico Acosta with attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, carrying a loaded firearm and felony assault. No charges have been filed for the actual shooting of the child. Investigators say they're still searching for several other suspects.
