THE BRONX - Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. has been sworn into office once again, but this year the inauguration was twofold.

The swearing-in officially kicked off a year-round celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the borough becoming its own county.

In January of 1914, the Bronx separated from New York County, now known as Manhattan.

Even the Empire State Building honored the big centennial, lighting up in the colors of the Bronx flag Thursday night.
