THE BRONX - The family of a worker at Montefiore Medical Center who sustained brain damage when he was attacked on the job two years ago says it’s being kept in the dark about the details of the incident.

The Korean American Parents Association organized a rally outside the hospital Thursday to demand more information.

The group says Seong Soo Kim, an engineer at Montefiore, was left for dead after the Oct. 6, 2014 attack. He was found unconscious and remained in a coma for two days. The injuries, which included a fractured skull, left him disabled and caused severe brain damage.

Organizers went as far as to accuse the hospital of covering up a hate crime. Montefiore tells New 12 that it conducted a "thorough internal investigation and shared findings with the police and the district attorney's office."

But at least one lawmaker is pressing for the hospital to meet with the family, which says the hospital did not divulge its findings to Kim's relatives.

"This is not only a crime against Kim, it's a crime against the Korean community because Mr. Kim was suffering harassment before this incident occurred," says state Sen. Tony Avella, who attended the rally alongside Kim's mother. "I'm very disappointed in the lack of action and response from the hospital, considering this happened on their premises over two years ago. We have no resolution, and the hospital has not met with the family."

The NYPD says its investigation has stalled because, despite subpoenas, hospital workers remain tight-lipped about the incident.
