iPhone-mania hits the Bronx with newer, faster gadget

The latest generation of the iPhone arrived in stores Friday, and lines of Bronx residents woke up at the crack of dawn to snatch them

THE BRONX - The latest generation of the iPhone arrived in stores Friday, and lines of Bronx residents woke up at the crack of dawn to snatch them up.

Lines went around the block at an AT&T store on Metropolitan Avenue as the latest "must-have" gadget went on sale.

"It's going to be worth it. I've been waiting for this for a month now, so I'm going to wait [in line]," says Jessica Thomas.

Some fans of the phone even skipped work to buy one.

"There's a lot of them calling in to work while they were on the line," says Sasha Centeno, a sales representative at the store.

Apple says the phone is twice as fast for half the price. While the original iPhone sold for $500, the 3G starts at $200, if a two-year contract with AT&T is signed.
