THE BRONX - A Bronx school's cheerleading team has set its sights on a national championship after taking the regional title.

The James Monroe High School Eagles are the first Bronx team from a public school to qualify for the National High School Cheerleading Championship down in Florida, according to the coach.

And the team sometimes doesn't even have space to practice. The cheerleaders and their coaches say they train with a bare minimum of resources.

They are trying to raise funds to cover the costs for the trip down to Florida.

In addition to overcoming obstacles just to have a team, the student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.0 and are required to volunteer for community service.
