THE BRONX - Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead in his own apartment in Wakefield.

Police say Jercar Brooks, 36, was found by a friend in his apartment at 634 East 233rd St. They responded to the apartment at around 8:30 p.m. Friday to find Brooks with two gunshot wounds to his torso. They say he could have been dead for at least a day.

Friends of Brooks say he was a father of two and a dedicated mechanic. They also say they cannot understand why anyone would want him dead.

Police have released surveillance video of a suspect they are looking for. They say he drives a black Camaro and walked into the building with Brooks. Several minutes later, he can be seen leaving the building with a large box.

The suspect is described as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 4 inches tall, and was wearing a grey Yankees hat and red North Face jacket.
