Jeter's chase for 3,000 hits postponed

NEW YORK - (AP) - The game between the New York Yankees and TampaBay Rays scheduled for Friday night has been postponed because ofrain, delaying Derek Jeter's pursuit of 3,000 hits.

The game was called more than an hour before it was set tobegin. Rain was falling at Yankee Stadium, with thunder andlightning overhead. No makeup date was announced.

Jeter has 2,998 career hits. The Yankees shortstop said beforethe postponement that he was pulling himself from next week'sAll-Star game so he could rest his injured calf.
