MELROSE - New York Jets guard Willie Colon handed out 200 turkeys today to unsuspecting Bronx residents.

Colon and two teammates were at the Salvation Army in Melrose and the Melrose Houses, where he grew up.

"These are all people I grew up with - my family, my friends," said Colon. "So to come back here during the holidays is an awesome time for me."

His mother still lives in the Melrose Houses. She says that no matter how famous her son gets, he'll never forget his Bronx roots.

The Melrose native says he hopes no family will go without turkey this Thanksgiving.
